Resistor colour code calculator

Read a 4-band or 5-band resistor.

Try the circuit in the labBuild it on the simulator's bench and measure it.

How it is worked out

Read from the end with the bands bunched together; the tolerance band (often gold or brown) is set apart. On a 4-band resistor the first two bands are digits, the third the multiplier: brown-black-red-gold is 1, 0, ×100 = 1 kΩ ±5 %. A 5-band resistor has three digits: brown-black-black-brown-brown is 100 × 10 = 1 kΩ ±1 %.

Digits: black 0, brown 1, red 2, orange 3, yellow 4, green 5, blue 6, violet 7, grey 8, white 9. Gold as a multiplier is ×0.1, silver ×0.01.
