Questions

1. Under RA 7920, how often are the licensure examinations for electrical engineering held?

  1. Twice a year
  2. Once a year
  3. Three times a year
  4. Every two years
Show the answer and solution

Answer: A. Twice a year

Section 15 of RA 7920 provides that the examinations are given twice a year, in Manila and in other places the Board may recommend.

2. Under RA 7920, what are the relative weights of the subject groups in the Registered Electrical Engineer examination?

  1. Mathematics 25%, Engineering Sciences and Allied Subjects 30%, EE Professional Subjects 45%
  2. Mathematics 30%, Engineering Sciences 25%, EE Professional 45%
  3. Mathematics 20%, Engineering Sciences 30%, EE Professional 50%
  4. Each group 33⅓%
Show the answer and solution

Answer: A. Mathematics 25%, Engineering Sciences and Allied Subjects 30%, EE Professional Subjects 45%

Section 19 assigns 25% to Mathematics, 30% to Engineering Sciences and Allied Subjects, and 45% to Electrical Engineering Professional Subjects.

3. Under RA 7920, what are the subject weights and passing rule for the Registered Master Electrician examination?

  1. Technical subjects 60% and PEC 40%; 75% general average
  2. Technical subjects 50% and PEC 50%; 70% in each subject
  3. Technical subjects 50% and Philippine Electrical Code 50%; 70% general average with no subject below 50%
  4. Technical subjects 40% and PEC 60%; 70% general average with no subject below 60%
Show the answer and solution

Answer: C. Technical subjects 50% and Philippine Electrical Code 50%; 70% general average with no subject below 50%

Section 19 weights the RME examination 50% technical subjects and 50% PEC. Passing requires a 70% general average with no subject rating below 50%.

4. An REE examinee scores Mathematics 80%, Engineering Sciences and Allied Subjects 65% and EE Professional Subjects 68%. Under RA 7920, what is the result?

  1. Failed; general weighted average 69.10%
  2. Passed; based on the simple average of 71.00%
  3. Failed; two groups are below 70%
  4. Passed; general weighted average 70.10% with no group below 50%
Show the answer and solution

Answer: D. Passed; general weighted average 70.10% with no group below 50%

Using the Sec. 19 weights: 0.25(80) + 0.30(65) + 0.45(68) = 20 + 19.5 + 30.6 = 70.10%. That meets the 70% general weighted average, and no group is below 50%, so the examinee passes.

5. Under RA 7920, an applicant for the RME examination has completed four years of high school education. How much apprenticeship in electrical installation, operation and maintenance is required?

  1. 1 year
  2. 5 years
  3. 2 years
  4. 3 years
Show the answer and solution

Answer: B. 5 years

Section 18 sets a minimum age of 18 and lists alternative qualifications. A four-year high school education needs 5 years of apprenticeship. (Completing at least the third year of the five-year BSEE course, or graduating from an EE technology course, needs 1 year of practice; a 2-year electrician's course 2 years, and a 1-year electrician's course 3 years.)

6. Under RA 7920, above what limits must installation work done by a Registered Master Electrician be supervised by a PEE or REE?

  1. Above 250 kVA or above 230 V
  2. Above 1000 kVA or above 1000 V
  3. Above 500 kW or above 13.8 kV
  4. Above 500 kVA or above 600 V
Show the answer and solution

Answer: D. Above 500 kVA or above 600 V

Section 31(c) limits RME work to installations of up to 500 kVA and 600 V. Work exceeding either limit must be supervised by a Professional or Registered Electrical Engineer.

Reference: RA 7920 Sec. 31(c)

7. Under RA 7920, how much active practice must a Registered Electrical Engineer have before applying for registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer?

  1. At least 2 years from registration as REE
  2. At least 7 years, 2 of them in responsible charge
  3. At least 4 years from registration as REE
  4. At least 10 years from graduation
Show the answer and solution

Answer: C. At least 4 years from registration as REE
