Wi-Fi and HTTP to the cloud

Embedded (ESP32) · Intermediate · about 20 minutes · part of Zen’s Electronics Design Mastery

Connect to the bench access point and POST a JSON message to a server every 10 seconds. This is the last step of every IoT device: getting the data off the board.

Wi-Fi and HTTP to the cloud: the circuit on the simulator's bench

How it works

WiFi.begin() then wait for WL_CONNECTED. Each POST returns an HTTP status: 200 means the server accepted it.

Wi-Fi transmit bursts draw about 240 mA, so a weak supply shows up here first as brownouts.

Try it on the bench

  1. Open the serial monitor: dots while connecting, then “HTTP 200”.
  2. Change the delay to 2000 to post more often.
